Feb Update
The tank is now 3 months old-time does fly-and so far going very well.The tank is now stocked with the following :-

Fish
1 Royal Gramma-doing really well so far
1 Aiptasia eating file fish-had it for 2 weeks-nice fish but not eating the three aiptasia anenomes

Shrimps
1 Cleaner
1 Boxer
2 Fire shrimps-never really saw the original one so bought a larger older one-this one is great especially at feeding times and the smaller one is now being seen more

Corals-soft
1 Mushroom coral-this seems to be thriving
1 Star polyp-purple structure turns bright green when lights come on
I added a Pulse coral-thrived for 2 weeks but now not looking good

I’m starting my own tank oup now and just discovered an Aiptasia growing. Has that file fish done the job yet?
I was going to get some Peppermint shrimp but you have to get the correct ones and these were not available so I got the file fish. Good fish but Aiptasia does not seem to be part of its diet.
Apparantly it only eats aiptasia as a last resort so initially I did not feed for two days but it just ignored the aiptasia and still appears to be ignoring them.
However they do not seem quite as strong as they were so it may be nibbling them during the night!!
I would try and get some ‘peppermints’ but if you ony have one aiptasia why not leave it. I have three and they do not seem to be causing any problems
Hi, peppermints are hit and miss when it comes to aiptasia or glass anenomes as they are sometimes called. I would recommend that you do everything you can to get rid of them.
Other ways are injecting them in the heart with kalkwasser, injecting hot water mixed with vinegar or my favourite which is using a product called Joes Juice where you spray it on them and they disintegrate before your eyes.
There are of course other ways to clear them but the above work best in my opinion.
