Hello world!
Welcome to MarineFishTank.WordPress.com. After two years of keeping tropical fish I decided to take a huge step and change to a combined invertabrate and marine fish tank. As always seems to be the case this step is bigger and more expensive than I first thought but I am told that it will be worth it in the end.
After weeks of consultation with the staff at my local fish centre ‘Tropica’ in Starbeck Harrogate ( I cannot reccomend them too highly), I decided to exchange my Rio Juwel tank for a larger more modern looking tank.
December 5th 2006
I purchased an ‘Ocean Reef ‘glass tank, 90cm wide,55cm high and 45cm deep.Total size 50 gallon (225 litres approx )
I have put in 10 kilo live sand and approx 25 kilo Indonesian cured live rock
Lighting consists of 4 extra high output bulbs-2 Marine blue 420 actinic and 2 14000k marine white, 39w 34″
I decided not to make my own salt water and purchased it direct from Tropica – approx 170 litres
I have since added a further 5 kilo of cured rock
Cured live rock is more expensive but I think safer and definitely quicker

Looking good – I can really see the progress from when you first got the the tank. A few weeks of ‘grandson’ has done wonders!!
You must post some more to show the changes to the rocks (purple and the algae) and the ’shy shrimp’. Be good to list some sites in your blogroll too. I’ll be checking back soon!
man, sweet tanks. How much live rock you got in that 50 gallon?
I now have about 25 kilo of live rock-I will post a new photo soon. It seems to be working because the water quality is keeping good so far.I have 2 fish, 4 shrimps and various corals apart from all the snails and hermit crabs
